“A forest walk three times a day”. Why doctors are increasingly prescribing nature.
The healing power of nature is unprecedented. Yet we usually turn to pills to get better. Still. Because more and more doctors and patients are realizing that we can take care of our physical and mental well-being in a different way. With Nature on Prescription ( “Natuur op Recept in Dutch), Nature For Health (NFH) gives nature a central place within healthcare and society.
“Actually, what we do is not innovative at all,” says Rob Wolters, NFH director and co-initiator of Natuur op Recept. “As humans, we were part of nature for many years. Herbs were our medicine. We gradually lost that connection. Urbanization and mechanization have pushed us too far from nature. You see that everywhere, also in healthcare.”
